Family pets rise to star status in these 'dog Olympics'
PET FEST AMERICA: It's difficult for most of us to teach a dog to fetch, let alone train it to do anything more complicated. That makes the accomplishments of the Iams SuperDogs, canines that perform feats of agility and skill in a sort of dog Olympics, even more impressive. The dogs will be the main attraction at this fest, which is presented by the Humane Society of the United States. WONDER DOGS: The animals in the touring show, many of them adopted from shelters, are all family pets of amateur handlers. The SuperDogs race through tubes, jump over barriers and perform acrobatic maneuvers. Their antics are accompanied by music and lights. A doggie dance routine and some comedy are also in the mix. After the shows, the performers mingle with the crowd. OTHER ATTRACTIONS: Festivalgoers can browse booths with information about pet health, nutrition, training and products. There also will be animals from local shelters up for adoption. NO (OTHER) DOGS ALLOWED: No pets are allowed, besides the ones who are performing or up for adoption, so leave Fido at home. Just expect to get the "you've got to be kidding me" look from your dog when you try to teach it a trick you saw in the show. WHERE: Reunion Arena, 777 Sports. WHEN: Saturday, with SuperDogs shows at 1 and 4:30 p.m. Displays open from 11:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. ADMISSION: $20 for ages 13 and older, $12.50 for ages 12 and younger. INFORMATION: www.petfestamerica.org. TICKETS: Ticketmaster, 214-373-8000, metro 972-647-5700 or www.ticketmaster.com.
